The DVR-S201 is Pioneer's professional
AUTHORING DVD-R drive - capable of buring both 3.95 GB and 4.7
GB AUTHORING media, this drive will be capable of creating Master
DVD discs
for replication using the CMF format.
NOTE that this drive ONLY writes to the original AUTHORING
Media, using a 635 nM laser.
You can use V1.0, V1.9, and V2.0 media,
assuming you have upgraded the firmware in your drive.
If you own a DVR-S201 you certainly should
upgrade your firmware. After 2500 hours of operation (about 2500
complete discs) have been burned, your DVR-S201 will require
this upgrade to continue operating. This is to ensure you will
upgrade your drive to DVD-R Spec V2.0.

The DVR-103 (OEM as the Apple Superdrive) and DVR-A03 (standalone drive) are Pioneer's new GENERAL MEDIA DVD-R drives - capable of burning ONLY 4.7 GB GENERAL media, this drive will NOT be capable of creating Master DVD discs for replication
using the CMF format. HOWEVER - it now seems that many replicators
report they can successfully replicate from DVD-R (G) discs!
NOTE that this drive ONLY writes to the new GENERAL DVD-R
Media, using a 650 nM laser.
The DVR-103 is shipping in Apple's 733
Mhz G4 as the "Superdrive". This drive reads
and writes CD-R, CD-R/W, DVD-R and DVD-R/W. It is designed to
work with both
iDVD and DVD
Studio Pro as a DVD-R burner.
You can write DVD-ROM type data discs
with this drive, with Roxio
Toast 5.01 Titanium, upgraded for DVD-R. Download the Updater
from http://www.roxio.com
