Happy 17th Anniversary Lacpug

Join us as we celebrate our 17th Anniversary. Let there be cake!

We will welcome Keith Roush who will show us how to create stunning content and deal with this new game-changing format called HDR.

Also Misha Tenenbaum will show off the World Premiere of SpeedScriber, the brand new transcription tool from Martin Baker and Digital-Heaven that will get your transcripts in real time or faster, not hours or days.

Also Karl Soule returns to show off what's new in Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Plus Will Blank will show us clips from his short, LIMBO which was just released by Indiewire

Plus Stump The Gurus, World Famous Raffle with a whole bunch of prizes, and party hats if anyone brings them.


NOTE: lacpug generally meets every 4th Wednesday of the Month. Meetings are open to public and ALL, beginning through advanced Digital Story Tellers are welcome. Join Gurus Adam Bedford, Misha Tenenbaum, Michael Kammes and Jason Bowdach as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:30PM - 7:55PM - SpeedScriber- Misha Tenenbaum

SpeedScriber, from Digital-Heaven, uses industry-leading automatic speech recognition technology to analyze audio/video files and create frighteningly accurate transcripts in real-time or faster. Transcripts are automatically broken up by speaker and timestamped at regular intervals, and can be edited and used in the app, or printed, exported to PDF, or sent to Avid, Final Cut Pro X or Premiere Pro, where they gain added functionality. Editor and EditStock founder, Misha Tenenbaum will demo this amazing new tool and show how it can be used with your favorite NLE to streamline the editing process for both non-fiction and scripted projects.



About Misha Tenenbaum
Misha Tenenbaum is the CEO and Founder of EditStock.com, a site that provides unedited films for editors to practice their craft with. As a proud member of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild (MPEG), Misha has logged more than 5,000 hours of union work on TV and film projects including the FX series American Horror Story, Wayward Pines on FOX, and the feature film JOBS starring Ashton Kutcher.
Misha graduated Georgia College & State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He is a certified Advanced Final Cut Pro Instructor, and an Avid Certified User (ACU).

    About Keith Roush
    Keith Roush is a 2015 HPA-nominated award-winning Senior Colorist. Many of Keith’s clients have been recipients of Oscars, Grammys and other awards. Recently, he colored graded a few films that have had great success and grossed more than $200+ million at the box office. He has also worked with some of the industry’s top talent including Steven Spielberg. Keith has a passion for color grading beautiful images and knows his purpose in life is to help filmmakers make stunning films that make an impact.

    As Founder & CEO of ROUSH Media, over the last 15 years, Keith has pushed the creative and technological boundaries of DI post-production. He has pioneered more efficient and higher quality workflows with his command of image science, computer technology, and workflow. In his pursuit to create a better experience for the audience, he is currently working on 4K HDR and HFR projects along with the creation of stunning images for films.

    He has had a broad and varied experience over his career. He has color graded and depth balanced stereoscopic 3D projects for some of the best in the industry, performed digital restoration in 4K on a 1950’s Technicolor studio feature, worked developing and printing film in dark rooms, worked on set for Super Bowl commercials, music videos and films, and done Photoshop retouching and graphic design for fashion and print clients.

    Having done the finishing, color grading, and mastering on thousands of music videos, commercials, TV shows, feature films, and documentaries, Keith brings his experience and passion for high-quality post-production to your project.

    Join Karl Soule from Adobe for a Post-NAB wrap-up of what's new in Creative Cloud.

    Karl Soule recently returned from 5 years living and working in Asia, growing the awareness and adoption of Adobe Premiere Pro in broadcasting and film. He’s now living and working in Culver City, covering the greater LA region to help adoption of Adobe Creative Cloud tools in the film industry. 






    9:40PM - 9:50PM - LIMBO - Show and Tell - Will Blank
    LIMBO is a short film directed by Will Blank that recently took the top prize for the Independent Short Film category at the CineGear Expo Film Competition 2017. Guillermo del Toro called it an "Excellent film." LIMBO was shot on 35mm and features all practical special effects, including an animatronic talking dog voiced by the legendary Sam Elliott. Will will give a preview of the film and talk about some of the challenges creating it.

    Will Blank is a Director/Editor who has worked on a number of shows for networks like AMC, HBO & NBC. He was most recently editor on the critically acclaimed WGN series Underground.     Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.

    From US 101 (heading South),
    take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
    Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
    Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
    The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

    From US 101 (heading North),
    take the Vermont Avenue exit.
    Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
    Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.
    Turn left into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
    The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

    Metro Red Line
    Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont and then it is a walk of several blocks and uphill to get to the Theatre. The Park has a gated stairway ending at Barnsdall Ave, just behind the strip mall. It's the only access point from this side, but it is often locked. There is long, tree-shaded stairway leading from Hollywood Blvd to the Gallery Theatre and this area is sometimes shared with a homeless population. The best route for people who use mobility devices is the sidewalk along the Barnsdall Park road access. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

    PARKING: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way.     What to do if I cant find a place to park?
    Park at the Kaiser Hospital Parking lot. Download directions HERE - or...

    1. Turn right on Hollywood Blvd
    2. Turn right on Vermont Ave
    3. Turn right on Sunset Blvd.
    4. Turn right into Kaiser Parking Structure
    5. Park on rooftop
    6. Take elevator down to Level 2
    7. Exit at Parking Entrance on Barnsdall Ave.
    8. Cross Street to Barnsdall Park
    9. Use Stair or elevator to Park
    10. Climb stairs and follow signs to Gallery Theatre
    11. Cost is $4.00 (I think) And security is provided.

    Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.

    Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
