Boris FX, Dortios Dogs and Final Cut Pro X
Join us Wednesday February 24 for the next lacpug meet.
We welcome Mary Poplin, Product Specialist for Imagineer Systems. Mary will share tips and tricks for editors to accomplish more in their timeline with new Boris Continuum 10 plug-ins featuring integrated Mocha masking and tracking tools.
Also we are excited to welcome this years “Doritos "Crash the Superbowl,” winner Jacob Chase, who just walked away with $1,000,000.00 for his commercial called “Doritos Dogs.” Jacob will take us on a tour of how he made this commercial starring his own dog, Mis and two other rescues.
Plus, Steve Martin, founder of Rippletraining.com returns! Steve will get us updated on the lastest FCPX and demonstrate some of his favorite plugins for Final Cut Pro X editors, the ones essential for professional post production.

Join Gurus Monica Daniel Misha Tennenbaum and Michael Kammes as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

Mary Poplin is Product Specialist for Imagineer Systems, the innovators of mocha planar tracking and visual effects tools. An experienced visual effects and motion graphics artist, Mary has worked on major Hollywood feature films such as The Last Airbender, Gullivers Travels, and Jackass 3D. As Imagineer Systems' west coast product specialist, Mary consults with film studios and customers to provide hands on training to help evangelize the power of mocha and planar tracking, and now Boris FX as well.

 About Jacob Chase
Jacob has written films for The Jim Henson Company, Cirque du Soleil, Amazon Studios, and more. He directed the feature film The Four-Faced Liar which premiered at Slamdance Film Festival and went on to win the HBO Audience Award for “Best First Feature” at Outfest. Recently, Vulture.com listed The Four-Faced Liar as one of the “27 Great Indie Romantic-Comedies from the Last 10 Years.” Jacob directed the short film After-School Special written by Neil LaBute and starring Sarah Paulson and Wes Bentley. After-School Special has been screened at 50+ film festivals including Palm Springs International Shortfest and Hollyshorts where Chase won the “Future Filmmaker Award.” Additionally, the short gained a worldwide theatrical release in a shorts block entitled Stars in Shorts, released by Shorts International. Jacob recently wrote and directed a new short film entitled Amy, starring Alex Karpovsky and Troian Bellisario. Jacob directed staged readings of Martin McDonagh’s A Behanding in Spokane (starring Billy Burke, Devon Gummersall, and Edi Gathegi) and Terri Minsky’s Amazing Frogs and Toads (starring Abigail Spencer, Patrick J. Adams, Katie Aselton, and Josh Pence). In addition to his film and theater work, Jacob is the creative director of “Big Worm’s Sherwood Scare,” a non-profit haunted house that runs during the Halloween season and raises money for Big Worm’s Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Steve Martin, founder of Rippletraining.com will demonstrate some of his favorite plugins for Final Cut Pro X editors. With literally thousands of free and paid plugins available for the FCPX universe, Steve will boil down the list to the ones that he considers essential for professional post production.. He’ll cover handing off audio to Logic Pro or ProTools users, color grading and LUT workflows and effects and productivity enhancement plugins. Steve will pack a ton of info into this session, so come prepared with your questions.

Steve Martin is the creative force behind Ripple Training and has been using and teaching Final Cut Pro since 1999. Since Final Cut Pro's introduction, he has introduced thousands of people to Final Cut Pro through his classes, workshops and training products. Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.
From US 101 (heading South),
take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.
From US 101 (heading North),
take the Vermont Avenue exit.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont, one long block from the Art Park. More info on the Red Line can be found here.
PARKING: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. What to do if I cant find a place to park?
Park at the Kaiser Hospital Parking lot. Download directions HERE - or...
1. Turn right on Hollywood Blvd
2. Turn right on Vermont Ave
3. Turn right on Sunset Blvd.
4. Turn right into Kaiser Parking Structure
5. Park on rooftop
6. Take elevator down to Level 2
7. Exit at Parking Entrance on Barnsdall Ave.
8. Cross Street to Barnsdall Park
9. Use Stair or elevator to Park
10. Climb stairs and follow signs to Gallery Theatre
11. Cost is $4.00 (I think) And security is provided.
Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.
Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
