Join us January 18, 2012 as we welcome editor, director, and writer Kevin Klauber and assistant editor Adi Cabigting who shaped over 3000 hours of footage into the feature documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, directed by Cameron Crowe. If you are editing a doc or are going to edit a doc, you want to be here.

Plus we welcome highly regarded producer, director, writer and career strategist Shawn Tolleson who will get our 2012 started with tips and stategies on getting your career going.

Plus, Michael Cioni, CEO and founder of Light Iron will pay us a visit to discuss the unique DI workflow he and his team have developed for such films as "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "Social Network," "The Muppet Movie" and over 200 other films.

Plus everyone attending will recieve a FREE license of Tonalizer/VFX from Irudis.

Plus Stump the Gurus, a show and tell and of course, World Famous Raffle.

Join Gurus
Andrew Balis, Michael Kammes and Misha Tennenbaum as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning FCS and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

8:00PM - 8:30PM - "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Post Workflow - Michael Cioni.
CEO of Light Iron in Hollywood, Michael Cioni will provide a breakdown of the tools used on "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" to demonstrate how small the infrastructure is becoming for high-end post, even though it's as powerful as ever. He will use this thread to explore the project's post workflow - and even bring a few of the critical components. He will discuss the framing challenges and the 4K data rate challenges, and then segue into the various 4K display announcements at CES. There will be a massive movement toward 4K mastering by 2013-2014, which starts now. You can get a preview by reading a write-up about the workflow at Creative Cow.

About Michael Cioni
Over the past decade, Michael’s passion for file-based acquisition talent and toolsets has helped give new shape to the digitally changing motion picture industry. In 2003, he co-founded and built his first post house, PlasterCITY Digital Post, into one of Hollywood’s preeminent desktop-based post production facilities. Now CEO of Light Iron, Michael has served as a Digital Intermediate Supervisor on hundreds of feature and television projects and provided 2D and 3D data-centric post production technical and advisory support for major studios and independent films.
Michael believes strongly in empowering clients through education. He is a founding member and instructor at RED Digital Cinema's official training program, REDucation, has instructed HDExpo/Createasphere’s Panasonic P2 Workshop and Color Camp 101 as well as numerous events and online classes for content creators. Michael sits on the Board of Directors of both the Hollywood Post Alliance and Filmmakers Alliance and he served as an adjunct faculty member for USC's Annenberg School of Journalism.
Before moving to Hollywood, Michael worked in television with a PBS affiliate in Illinois. He became the youngest recipient of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences “Best Informational Program” when his syndicated program "alt.news 26:46" won a combined four Regional Emmys in 2001 and 2002. Michael is a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications and Media Arts.

The break is a chance to hang out and meet and greet and get your problems solved and who knows, get a job. You never know who you are going to meet at lafcpug. Snacks and Beer and Wine will be on sale in the lobby. Proceeds go to the Gallery Theater.

Editor, director, and writer Kevin Klauber and assistant editor Adi Cabigting shaped over 3000 hours of footage into the feature documentary Pearl Jam Twenty, directed by Cameron Crowe. About Kevin Klauber
Kevin is most known for shaping over 3,000 hours of footage into the feature documentary "Pearl Jam Twenty", directed by the Academy Award director Cameron Crowe.

Kevin's work as an editor, director, and writer have brought him to TV, music videos, feature films, shorts, and commercial work. Past clients include Vinyl Films (Crowe's company), Sean Penn's Haiti non-profit JPHRO, A&E, PBS, The National Science Foundation, and The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He studied film at the University of Southern California with an emphasis on editing and directing. His student film "Bio.RHYTHM" won an award in sound editing by the Motion Pictures Sound Editing Association. Also at USC, he worked as Post-Supervisor at the university's Emmy award-winning television station, where he gained an encyclopedic knowledge of video codecs and HD workflows.

In the music world, he has worked on projects for Devendra Bahnhart, Pearl Jam, John Cale, Arcade Fire, Johnny Cash, Gary Wilson, Billy Corgan, Dam-Funk, and Erisi Arvizu.

Kevin has worked in post production for the past several years, editing feature documentaries, music videos, and shorts. He is known for coming into projects during crunch-times and making films better. He strives to live a creative life, and encourages all to do so.

Director John Putch will show a trailer from Route 30, Too!, his 2nd film in the triolgy, Route 30.
The movie is scheduled to be self released in Sept,2012. If you want to preview it, the website is www.route30too.com.

How to get to the Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park

The Gallery Theater at Barnsdall Art Park

(between Vermont and Normandie)

Enter through the gate on Hollywood Blvd just West of Berendo. The theater is at the top of the hill, adjacent to the art gallery.

From US 101 (heading South),
take the Hollywood Boulevard exit.
Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn right into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

From US 101 (heading North),
take the Vermont Avenue exit.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto Vermont Avenue.
Turn left onto Hollywood Boulevard.
Turn left into the entrance to Barnsdall Art Park at 4800 Hollywood Boulevard. (you will only see a parking lot. Drive to top of hill to find the Gallery Theater)
The Gallery Theater is in the center of the park.

Metro Red Line
Yes, Los Angeles has a subway and if possible you ought to use it. Riders are dropped of at Sunset and Vermont, one long block from the Art Park. More info on the Red Line can be found here.

Note on Parking: Parking is FREE. There is ample parking on top of hill near the Art Park. Parking extends around the perimeter of the Park. NOTE: Please park your car diagonally even though the spaces are not marked that way. Wheelchair access: Park in the lot next to the Hollyhock house (you will see a handicap parking sign), come into the theatre entrance, and take the elevator down. There will be space in the front of the theatre for wheelchairs.

Before or after the meeting, there is a fine restaurant row on Vermont between Hollywood and Franklin (just around the corner from the park). There are also a number of funky ethic eateries along Hollywood Blvd.
