What's on the Agenda? - (Below agenda is only partial and not in order)
- CANON Presents: Michael Blieden, Expolorer of Light
"Yes You Can Use Autofocus And Still Call Yourself A D.P."
"I have recently come out of the closet as a director/shooter who is no longer ashamed of using autofocus while shooting narrative or music videos. Rapid reset times, low weight, tons of flexibility, plus a new breed of video cameras with face detection have made autofocus a viable choice on my most demanding jobs. I first began experimenting with autofocus while using steadicam on a web series. When that worked, I brought the practice to "Late Night", and eventually to the prime time. I'll tell you what the limits are, show some test footage, and explain how I got everyone I work with on board."
About Micael Blieden:
Michael Blieden is currently a staff writer and director for NBC's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." Since the show began in March of 2009, he has directed and D.P.'d over 100 short films and music videos, including Fallon's "Born To Run" opening number for the 2010 Emmy Awards. Before joining "Late Night" Blieden directed "The Comedians of Comedy", "Zach Galifianakis Live At The Purple Onion," music videos for Fiona Apple, Kanye West, and Aimee Mann, plus tv and web series for Comedy Central. Michael also wrote the feature film "Melvin Goes To Dinner," directed by Bob Odenirk.

- "I The Pro Res Maker" - Kevin Jardin and John Stark
One afternoon in December I realized that I had four iMacs all transcoding different file types into Pro Res 422 (HQ) for our editors. I was keeping an eye on all four of them, when I was asked to get one more end graphic. Knowing that this would be yet another transcode, I frustratingly started singing "I make pro res..." in my head. Things got more and more loopy until I finally asked another assistant here to drop me a beat. In doing so the song was born. Kevin and I shot the video a few days later over the course of about an hour. I edited it in about an hour. Kevin took over the color and it took about an hour. I dropped onto youtube in about an hour and an hour later we had finished the post production anthem of 2010 - 2011.
Kevin Jardin and John Stark, from Beast San Francisco will present their video "I The Pro Res Maker."
About Kevin Jardin
New to the industry, Kevin Jardin finished his cinema degree at San Francisco State University in summer 2010 and went straight into the world of post-production. Kevin served as a Freelance editor, colorist, and motion graphic artist for MASH SF, Levi's, and Incase. He currently works as at Beast Editorial as an Assistant Editor working on commercials for clients such as Chevrolet, Electronic Arts, Intel, and Nintendo.
About John Jenkins-Stark
I've been on Final Cut Pro for almost ten years now. Editing mostly corporate and industrial pieces. I also worked on a lot of musically related pieces to keep my mind fresh. I've been working at Beast Editorial in San Francisco for three years. Working on honing my skills as an editor as well as spending my time off shooting with a newly purchased Canon 5D Mark II. I'm technical enough, and creative enough to really get by in both worlds. I've been in bands, and have toured across the United States and Europe, so writing lyrics and making them work with a beat comes naturally.
